Professional Music Editing Services

Music Editing has been our primary area of work since 1996. We have all the necessary equipment, knowledge and expertise to get the job done, at a reasonable fee. Why is that so important? The main reason people don’t use a large professional studio for small projects is that “it costs too much”. Let’s face it, they’re not overcharging their clientele. They merely had bigger projects in mind when they built their studio. That is where Digital Music Services® music editing comes in. Here at DMS, we began from the ground up with smaller projects in mind. You get the “Quality” of the “Big Studio” but affordable to everyone, no matter what size your project is.

We started music editing for a local dance school in 1995 for their dance recital. From there, we began music editing for more schools and began doing Mardi Gras music editing as well. Somewhere along the way, editing for ice skating music was added to our clientele.

Our company has the ability to edit your ceremony music for weddings, as well as wedding music for receptions. We have edited many first dance songs for our wedding couples over the years. Sometimes, we need to extend a processional song for the ceremony music.

Music Editing Summary

In general, you should find most of your answers that you are looking for in our F.A.Q.’s. tab. If your question isn’t answered, please call or Email us to discuss your project needs. Next, we can quote rates via Telephone or Email and schedule a time most suitable for your editing. Once we have your music, the songs are assembled and edited into the correct order known as a “mix”. When the new “mix” is approved, we can add any desired “Sound Effects” to the mix. We can burn it to a CD and returned by mail or sent via email.
One-on-one editing sessions are the most cost effective method.  For those who live outside our vicinity, we also provide “Telephone & Email Music Editing” as well.

Please Note: Digital Music Services® respects all property rights. We will not participate in any illegal activity for music editing. “YouTube” contrary to popular belief, is not a legal source for downloading music or video’s. We will not assist any client to obtain said materials. If it can’t be purchased legally, we can’t help you. Please support and respect copyright laws.

Studio (In-Person) Music Editing is our preferred method of editing for dance school and Mardi Gras clients. This is great if you live within driving distance to our studio. 100% Custom mix, made exactly the way you want it (a single song or a multi-song mix). Please take a moment and read our F.A.Q.’s to answer the most commonly asked questions. Should you have any other questions, give us a call at 337-261-0707 we’re here to help!

PRO’s:

You control everything, splices, over dubs, sound effects, etc.. Because your controlling everything, you end up with the perfect final mix. You’ll have a “one of a kind” custom mix eliminating any fears of another competitor having the same mix.

Since the mix is being created with you present, everything comes together very quickly. You can make split second decisions, try different effects, cross fades, etc.. Therefore, this is the least expensive and fastest way to get your perfect mix.

The “Layout” sheet is helpful but not required, as long as you have a good idea what your wanting.

CON’s:

There aren’t any. If we had to find one, then perhaps the driving time to get here. Some of our clients live outside of the United States.

Phone Music Editing is a service we offer for those who live outside our vicinity and is truly the “next best thing” to being at the studio.

100% Custom mix, made exactly the way you want it (a single song or a multi-song mix). Please take a moment and read our F.A.Q.’s to answer the most commonly asked questions. Should you have any other questions, just give us a call at 337-261-0707 we’re here to help!

This is the second least expensive method and has worked very well. Most of our “Mail Order” clients prefer this method, because it allows them to still be a part of the creation process, hearing the results immediately and then having the ability to hear the complete mix with out having to download anything from the Internet.

CON’s:

You’ll have to “Layout” your mix, using standard time lines and layout methods. You’ll need to provide your music and Layout form, etc. (See “Place an order”)

Email Music Editing is a service we offer for those who live outside our vicinity. This is used specifically for our ballroom dance music and figure skating music clients. Sometimes our clients need to have ceremony music for weddings extended or edited. Often, our clients will need wedding music for receptions edited for their first dance, father-daughter dance mix, etc.

CON’s:

You’ll have to “Layout” your mix, using standard time lines and layout methods. You’ll need to mail us your music, Layout form, etc. (See “Place an order”). Because of the time spent creating your mix, creating a Mp3 file, uploading it to our server, Emailing you with a special link, making any corrections, and doing it all over again until it’s correct, makes this the slowest and most expensive method. For some of our clients, this is the only means possible and is still very affordable.

What is a “Layout” sheet and why do you need it?

This tells us exactly which parts of each song, you want and don’t want. Here’s an example of the format we use.

ArtistTrack # Times Comments
Taylor Swift 40:00 - 1:21Keep (This is the beginning of my mix)
1:21 - 1:48Delete
1:48 - 1:57Keep (Going to a new CD)
Katy Perry 10:00 - 3:23Delete
3:23 - 4:20Keep (Going to new song)
Britney Spears 80:00 - 4:55Delete
4:55 - EndKeep (This is the end of my mix)

Why do I have to supply my music to you?

There are many versions of the same song, and they aren’t always the same exact times and tempo. Therefore, if we both use the same music source, there won’t be any time or tempo errors in the mix. Additionally, your music is  returned with your final mix.

Can I zip all my songs in to a single zip file?

Yes. You may also send them as MP3’s, or as data on a CD as well. Please note the MP3 original “sample rate” must be equal to or greater than 128 Kbs. Any supplied CD’s must be made with  “high quality” MP3’s to get the best performance. If you supply lower sample rates the quality will be less than satisfactory.

How much do you charge?

We charge by the Job, it depends on the amount of time needed to create your mix. The more cuts, splices, over dubs, etc., the more your mix will cost. Please keep in mind, we are creating a “one of a kind” custom mix just for you. To get a more accurate quote, call or Email us.

Can the quoted price change?

Yes. Our pricing was based on the information you gave us. As long as your project doesn’t change, neither will our pricing. Minor changes won’t affect prices, but major changes will affect the final pricing. Any changes in pricing would have to be approved by you.

How long does it take to get my mix?

In most cases your final mix will be delivered in 2 weeks or less.

Can I get it sooner?

Yes. A rush rate of $50.00, will apply to any orders needed within 1 week from the time the order is placed. Rush orders must be paid in full via Paypal.

Can you change the “tempo” (BPM) to speed up or slow down the music?

Yes. We can speed up or slow down, any part(s) of the mix or the entire mix to match any desired Beats Per Minute (BPM).

Can you add “Sound Effects” to my mix?

Yes. Our mixes are a 2 step process. Step 1 is finalizing the musical part of your mix. Step 2 is where we add any additional sound effects, voice overs, etc. after approval of Step 2 your music is placed on the media of choice.

Does the person editing my mix know how to count music?

Yes. If you want to cut on a “6” and come back on “7” somewhere else… we speak the lingo! Our editing specialist plays piano and has been a ballet instructor for several years.  They know exactly what you mean when you say, “&5&6&7&8”.

Can you remove vocals (Singers) or bad words from my songs?

Yes. This is now possible with great results.

How will I know the final mix is what I want?

We will Email you with a special link on our website or if you desire, we can play if for you over the telephone. The website link will allow you to hear your mix as many times as you like.  We pride ourselves on our 100% Guarantee. We won’t quit until you’re satisfied with your mix.

What is your refund policy?

There are no refunds once we have started on your mix. We guarantee you’ll be happy with your final mix, no matter how many corrections are needed.

Why don’t you list individuals in your “Clients” list?

Although we would love to list all the clients that have used our services, we felt their privacy was more important. Which also works to their advantage because nobody will know if we did someone else’s music until its played in a competition somewhere. By then its to late for their competitor(s) to do anything about cleaning up their music. However, if you don’t think the quality of your music splices matters in a competition…Don’t take our word for it, at your next competition, ask the Judges!

If you have additional questions, give us a call at 337-261-0707.
